Dog rescue charity feeling the bite of insufficient shelter for strays this Christmas

It will be lonely this Christmas for a number of dogs in the Galway area as the Connemara-based charity MADRA struggles to contend with the sudden increase of abandoned dogs being reported in the area. Kennel vacancies and other resources are being stretched at the charity and the number of calls being received by MADRA about neglected dogs is now averaging at 50 per day.

Dog rescue charity MADRA to hold adoption day this weekend

A dog adoption day will take place this weekend at Trusty Pet Pals dog day care centre in Briarhill Business Park. The event, organised by MADRA Mutts Anonymous Dog Rescue and Adoption, will take place on Saturday from 11am to 4pm.

Mayo rescue shelters benefit from fundraising

The results are in; Irish dog lovers have raised a whopping €100,000 in cash and food donations for animal rescue centres across the country as part of the fifth annual Pedigree Adoption Drive, with €4,750 of this year’s grant being awarded to Ainmhithe Animal Rescue, Ballina; Mayo SPCA, Ballyhaunis; and North West SPCA, Ballina.

As many as 20 rescue dogs were settling in to their new homes over the weekend thanks to a 24-hour dog adoption drive organised by local charity MADRA.

Ireland’s first 24 hour dog adoption event takes place on tomorrow Friday August 24 and Saturday August 25. Organised by Galway dog rescue charity MADRA, the event will take place from 8am to 8pm each day at the Trusty Pet Pals dog daycare centre in Briarhill.

MADRA Dog Expo takes place this weekend

Dog lovers will descend on the Black Box in Galway this weekend for Ireland’s only dog expo, in aid of Connemara-based rescue charity MADRA.

The cat rescue is offering cat owners the opportunity to have their female cats spayed for just €35, and their male cats neutered for just €25, which is about half the normal cost.
